Piler or Filer? Associated Press Writes About Organizers and Clutter

Are you a piler or a filer? I'm a bit of both. I never file something until I know for sure I'm finished with it. And even then, I try not to file too much, preferring instead to shred things I don't think I'll need in the future. It's a risk, I know, but I'd rather shred it and take the chance than keep it and bulk up my filing system and my life.

And speaking of filing systems, this morning's Decatur Daily, Nova Scotia Chronicle Herald, and Salisbury Post are each running an article written by Anne Wallace Allen of the Associated Press. The piece is about professional organizers, the concepts behind getting organized and how individual client preferences should dictate the solutions an organizer comes up with. NAPO President Barry Izsak is quoted, as well as several other organizing professionals including Malia Hall, Deborah Kawashima and Sally Goff.

So are you a piler? Or a filer? I'd love to know!

I'm a filer that's married to a piler. It makes for some 'unique' marital challenges.

Melinda, no doubt! No marriage is perfect and I figure if that's the worst problem I have, I'm pretty lucky eh? It's all in how you look at things! :) Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

I would have to go with piler to filer. I like to have my pile of items I need to deal with (which usually is never bigger than a few inches) that turns into being filed. Sadly, I also pile my "be filed" but I have a set limit of how much can be piled before I need to file.

The nice thing about being a piler who then turns into a filer is that it allows me to have some flexibility.

Megan, thanks for your comment! I am the same way you are.

I'm a piler. I'm visual. I have to see it. If I cannot see it, it does not exist.Although the scanner is my friend. I can scan all the stuff from my clip files that I use for inspiration. Well not all of it. I'm also tactile, so I have clear boxes of wool and fabric etc. It helps impose order on chaos.

Barb, thanks for your comment! I tend to be pretty visual too, so I understand where you're coming from.
