Christmas Boy bought me an 30gig video iPod for Christmas in 2005, and I really love it. A while back,
I posted about how I had ditched the earbuds because I only listened to my iPod in the car anyway, and I use the radio transmitter (which is SO cool by the way). The other reason I ditched the earbuds is that like many people, I have very small...
ears and that means small ear openings. Pretty much anything
designed to go into the ear doesn't work for me. I haven't found a
mobile phone earbud that fits, and when I began shooting pistols, I
found I had a really hard time wearing regular foam earplugs so I had
custom latex earplugs made. (For you shooters out there, that's the best $40 I ever spent.)
Anyway, I was quite discouraged by my small ear dilemma and my inability to use earbuds of any kind. Until I found these JVC Marshmallows! Yippeee my little ears are saved! And the best part is that they were only about $20. They're smaller than standard buds, and they have squishy colored "marshmallow-like" foam sleeves that feel good in your ear. Oh, and they come with an extra pair of squishies in case the first pair wear out or get lost. If you too struggle with most earbuds being too big and uncomfortable in your ear, try the JVC Marshmallows. You'll be glad you did!

I have been messing around trying to find a pair of earbuds that would fit. I too have small ears and have tried about 4 different earbuds with no success. I will try these next - Thanks!

Thanks for the post. I am going to tell my husband about these earphones because I'm tired of him telling me that his ears are so small no earphones will stay in them. Hopefully these will solve his problem.

Oh, I need some of those. I always feel like my ears are being stretched into very unnatural positions by every other earbuds I have tried. Thanks Monica!

Amy, Kate and Amie, glad to help! The standard shape/size buds are TORTURE for those of us with small ears. These are really a godsend. Hope you enjoy them! (they also come in other fun colors too, which is neat)

Is "squishy" an official audiophile technical term? If not, it has my vote.

My husband and I both have the same problem! hmmm...who the heck is doing the market research for designing these things? "Sounds" like JVC found itself a great niche market! : ) Thanks Monica!

Hi Monica,
Great tip! Think I will get that for hubby and I for our trip overseas. Goodbye sore ears!

Brandie and Ariane, these things are truly lifesavers!! (earsavers?)
BigNerd, yes SQUISHY is the technical term. :)
Thanks for your comments!

You are so uptown Monica! I finally got an iPod at the behest of the surgeons I work with. If you want to listen to your own music during a case, you have to have the equipment to plug into the dock.....anyway, it's the best money I've spent in a while. I started to blog on the thing, but it would just show how far behind the times I really am!

Xavier, I'm not really uptown at all. I would never have bought an iPod, but my hubby got me one and now I can't live without it! I imagine in your line of work it's wonderful too. Love your blog by the way. Great work!

Finally, someone's talking about it! :) I have problems like this too. I did find some I like that were from Apple that are "squishy" versions of the ones that come with the iPod itself... and it comes with 3 different sizes of squish pieces. (that is also a technical term) These were at CompUSA for $30-ish. - Lorie

My hubby just got these as well a couple of weeks ago & loves them. I don't think his ears are small, but he did find the others uncomfortable and heard about these "marshmallows." FYI, he purchased them at a discounted online price at Circuit City, then picked them up in person (they guarantee online orders to be ready for pickup in 24 minutes or get a $24 gift card free - that would be fun to put to the test, maybe order online while sitting across the street at Starbucks then set the timer!). I'm putting them on my wishlist now for sure! :-)

Where did you have your custom earplugs made? I love to shoot! At an indoor range the foam plugs aren't very effective, and the sonic valve plugs don't fit. So for now I'm using muffs, which are heavy and hot. Sounds like custom plugs would be a good investment!

Lorie and Tanya, I hope you like them, and thanks for the comments. I thought I was the nutty one, always complaining about how the standard buds killed my ears. Now I see I'm not alone. :)
Mary Helen, I got my custom ear plugs made while I was at an outdoor 3-gun shooting competition here in Georgia. There was a couple set up there at a table making and selling them. They squirt this stuff in your ear and let it harden, then poof it's a custom plug. I still use muffs overtop though when I shoot INDOORS, as I don't want to take any chances.
