PHOTOS from the 4-Hour Master Bedroom Makeover
As you know, I recently went to Cincinnati (actually Kentucky, if we're splitting hairs) to do an in-studio podcast (What Really Matters) with my BFFs, Vicky and Jen. During the 2.5 days I was there, we ate, we drank, we hung out, we talked, we played the Wii, (I AM the Wii boxing champion by the way) and somehow in between it all, we managed to do a bedroom makeover for Vicky and Jen's contest winner, Natasha Bigl. I posted before and after pictures of the project and Natasha was kind enough to give us an interview about the whole process, which you can read here...
We started by re-arranging the furniture. You can see from the before pictures that the bed was positioned beneath the gabled corner and it was actually about three feet out from the wall so Natasha and John didn't bonk their heads on the ceiling when getting up. We started by pulling it out of that tight little space, spinning it around and situating it on the other wall to divide the room. This opened up the window space and opened up the perfect spot for Natasha's dresser beneath the window.
Once we moved the low dresser to the "pointy end" of the room, we moved out the TWO rockers, the ottoman, the small refrigerator, and the baby bottle warmer, all of which had all been unused in quite some time. See, Natasha's little girl Julia is almost two years old, and these items were from when she was an infant. I pointed out to Natasha that she and John were living in a time warp and losing space to things that were just reminders of the past. Once we got those things out of the room, we moved the cedar chest into the recessed window alcove, where it fit perfectly, and we re-purposed the bassinet (a family heirloom that had just been eating space) into a storage piece for a few of Julia's toys, diapers and baby supplies and we relocated it into the corner behind the door. This way, the items inside it are handy for Natasha, but they're contained.
Then we moved the television out of the room (stats indicate that couples with a tv in their rooms have less sex!) and the little table it was sitting on, as well. We replaced that table with an antique vanity table from another part of the house and used it to hold the mirror, placing them both where Natasha's low dresser used to be. The tall dresser stayed where it had been and then we cleaned out and organized the closet. Somewhere in the mix, we also sorted through all the laundry baskets, the dressers and the stuff under the bed and Natasha got rid of several garbage bags of clothing. Good for her!
Four hours after we arrived, the results were pretty impressive, if I do say so myself. Check out the photos below. "Before" pics:

Thanks again to Vicky and Jen for your hard work and help with this project, and to Natasha and John for allowing us to come into her home and show her space, both before and after, to the world!

Great job! It looks so fantastic, and I'm sure you all had fun! :)

Ariane, thanks for your comments. The eaves were definitely challenging. The low dresser fit PERFECTLY under the window at the pointy end of the room though, and thankfully the room is wide enough to accommodate the bed turned perpendicular to the wall. The photos don't show anything under the bed, or in the dressers, which is where so much of our time was spent. Sorting!
