Finally Touch Free!

 Trashcan1_2

You know I looooove to throw things away! But it really bugs me to have to touch a garbage can in order to use it. The worst offenders are the large cans in public places that have the hinged front flap that you have to actually put your hand on and push to drop your trash into the can. YUCK. That's a smart design... NOT.

However, I'm happy to say that  Simplehuman has developed a really cool line of infrared trash cans that open when they sense your hand over them. This means no more foot pedals to snap off and break (like my cheap plastic kitchen can did a few years ago) and even though it's probably the most romantic holiday gift for your beloved, when you invest in the infrared touch-free trash can, there will be no more lifting the dirty lid with your clean fingers in the middle of preparing dinner. Yahoo! And by the way, if Christmas Boy got me one of these for Christmas this year, I would NOT be disappointed. (Hint Hint... hey, I'm practical, what can I say??)

Hi Monica,

These seem to be the latest rage. To see more touchless garbage can options, go to http://tinyurl.com/yrcmrv.

Thanks Jeri fir the link and for your comment!

Is this Sensor Can has wheels????? So that we move it wherever we want......

Daniel.

Daniel, I didn't see anything that indicated the sensor can has wheels, but I expect you could still move it as long as it wasn't too heavy from being full of garbage.

I'm all about convenience and cleanliness, but this can seems pretty pricey to me. I never minded pushing a lever with my foot. Also, I assume this can must be electric, to it has to be plugged in, or worse, use batteries. Not very appealing to me.

Yikes! I checked it out and it actualy uses six "D" cells. The price just went up, as did the cost to the environment. Two thumbs down.

James, thanks for your comment! I too, don't mind pushing a lever with my foot but to be honest, unless you buy a hundred dollar trashcan, eventually those pesky levers break. (Mine downstairs did and I'm still picking the dang lid up with my hand every time!)

Decent garbage cans are actually pretty pricey in general, I'm finding out. As for the battery operation of it, I hadn't really thought of the green aspects of it (or lack thereof) but I'm sure one could use rechargables if one were so inclined.

An additional selling point: Our two 'trashdigger' dogs took one look at its 'gotcha' opening/closing functionality and decided it was terrifying. They are cured from not only this trash can but all others 'just in case' they'll 'get em' too!

Danielle, I hadn't considered the Dog VS Trash situation, but if yours are afraid of it, so much the better. I imagine some pups however, would quickly figure out that if they put their little paw under that special light, POOF the lid opens like a magic treat dispenser! LOL... I know my cat would figure it out. (but I still want one)

May we assume from your latest comment that Christmas Boy didn't notice how you bumped up this post from last March to solidify the obvious hint for Santa? If I had failed such a test at my house, small fragments of my dead body would be the first items to be placed in the new receptacle she purchased for herself at the after-Christmas sale. Then, armed with the insurance money, she'd outfit every room in the house with identical ones just to drive home the point.

The sensor seems placed high enough that cats and ankle-biters wouldn't be able to trigger it open without using a chair. Our cat could figure it out, but not our dog. The shiny, convex surface would distort her sleek image and keep Kiwi away, but the dog would probably sit there for hours wondering why we keep that fat dog in there.

Monica,

That's the beauty of it for them - they can make the lid 'magically' open but then just as they get their nose into the good stuff it closes on them. I suppose this wouldn't occur if you had one that continually remained open as its sensed your existence, but ours is more of a 'oh, hello.. let me open that for you...you've now had five seconds, your time is up' functionality. The dogs are sure it's sole function is to decapitate them for daring to smell our tasty leavings.

I'm sure your kitty would conquer it though or at least significantly increase your battery expenses!
-D

Terry - poor Kiwi.. you'll give the girl a complex! :)

Terry you crack me UP as usual. Danielle, you're right, I guess the lid would probably slam down and catch your poochie's little nose. He'd learn quick!
