Quote of the Week: Making a Difference
Each Wednesday, I share with you a quote that inspires me, in the hope
that it will also inspire you. This week's quote is from Marian Wright Edelman. She said...
"We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee."

Oh, yes! Those who set out to do something big for the sake of self will likely fail, but those who quietly help another will live in eternal sunshine. "Big" is such a subjective perception. A hot cup of coffee or soup is big to someone out in the cold.

Monica,
Thanks so much for saying this. In life, it is not the big things but the small ones which spread happiness. The world will be a much happier place if each of us does small acts of kindness.

Monica,
This made me think of something that happened yesterday. While at the post office, I noticed a man with a Vietnam Veteran cap on. As I left the building, I stopped to quietly thank him for serving his country. The look of appreciation and surprise on his face told me that he doesn't hear those words enough. I know in my own life, it's been the random acts of kindness that have touched me most.

Suellen, Terry and Seeker,
Thank you so much for your comments! One of the philosophies I subscribe to is to endeavor to be as kind as possible to everyone I encounter each day. It costs me nothing, but it makes the moments of the day nicer for both me and the other person.
Suellen, I travel a lot and in the airport, I see a lot of service men and women, and I will often stop and thank them for their service. Another thing I've started doing (thanks to my husband's idea) is if there is a service person in a food line at the airport either in front of me or behind me in line, I will tell the cashier that I want to buy their meal. It is an easy way to offer a small gesture that says "thank you" to them. They always appreciate it.

I appreciate this quote.... I am often saying it's the little things that make me happy and it's the little things that get my goat... but more often than not I say it's the little things that make the biggest difference in my clients spaces~

Krista,
I agree with you! The devil is in the details, as they say... sometimes the smallest things can ruin your day if you let them. BUT on the other hand, I find more often than not, the smallest things can really make the biggest differences in our own lives and those of our clients, too. And then consider the cumulative effect of a whole BUNCH of small things and you have a great system going!
Thanks for your comment!
