The Check-Out Line: Days Ago Day Counter
Welcome to The Check-Out Line,
where I review products (and services) that are designed to make your life easier. I
give you my opinion and my opinion only. You decide for yourself. You
can see past product reviews here. This week, I'm reviewing the DaysAgo Day Counter.
Purpose: To keep you apprised of how much time has passed since you opened food, started a medication, or changed the water filter, just to name a few uses...
Suggested retail: $5.00 to $10.00
The DaysAgo Day Counter is one of those things you wish you had come up with, because it's just so obviously a smart invention. Simply put, it keeps you aware of the passage of time. Whether you want to water your plants every week, keep on top of giving your pet medication, or just know how long your leftovers have been hanging out in the fridge, the DaysAgo can assist you.
These tiny counters are battery-powered and attach using either suction, magnet, or elastic band. Wrap them around food containers, suction them to your aquarium, or magnet them to the fridge, and you'll always know how long it's been since you did any number of things!
Pros:
I've been using the DaysAgo Day Counters for quite some time and they are so handy, especially because I lose track of how old my leftovers get in the fridge. I often pull something out and wonder "How long ago did I wrap this and put it in here?" The DaysAgo now tells me to the minute how long, which means I'm able to keep my fridge contents current and I don't eat food that's been there too long. Bacteria in food can grow to dangerous levels past four days, so DaysAgo keeps me informed and healthy in that regard. These are incredibly simple to use, easy to read, and they work well even in the cold environment of the refrigerator.

I wish the All-Ette people would come out with a thinner version of these so I could use them on socks and underwear. I always lose track of when it's time to turn them inside out for their second week of use.

I have a page of stickers (Avery 5414) on my fridge next to my grocery list and a pen.
When I go to pop leftovers in the fridge I simply write the day of the week on the sticker and stick it on the leftovers.
Everybody knows how long the food has been there.
It can be eaten within 2-3 days or tossed (http://www.foodsafetyline.org)
The stickers wash off in the dishwasher if I forget to remove them.
It is cheap because you get lots of stickers.
Anyone in the family (even the kids) can figure out the system.
