Welcome to The Check-Out Line, where I review products (and services) that are designed to make your life easier. I give you my opinion and my opinion only. You decide for yourself. You can see my past product reviews here. This week, I'm reviewing Secure File Folders.
Manila folders are tried and true tools for storing and retrieving paper. They're been around for a long time, and they're a must in any office. And hey, they're great! These new file folders are a bit different however...
As you know, a traditional file folder has three open sides. So for you busy, multi-tasking folks on the go, dropping a folder or holding it the wrong way means your papers fly out and scatter everywhere. This can be an embarrassing problem when you're hauling butt through the airport trying to make a flight, or are walking into the coffee shop to meet with a client. Office Depot Secure File Folders are an innovative twist on an old standard.
Purpose: To hold papers at home, at work or on the road.
Suggested Retail: $10.99 for a box of 24.
At first glance, it looks like a regular folder. But look closer. There's a flap along the long open side, which holds your papers safe and sound, even if you drop the folder on the ground. The following series of photos below first shows the flap, then what your papers look like when they're in the folder and under the flap. The next photos show how to close the folder and a shot of me picking up a FULL Secure File Folder by only one side and you can see that nothing falls out. Also, notice the folder has a little notch cut beneath the label so you can tell whether there are papers inside, even when the folder is closed.
Pros: No scattered papers if the folder is dropped or held vertically. The notch near the top tab allows you to see if the folder is empty or not without opening it. I dig that. Plus, these folders will hold a LOT of sheets securely -- not just five or ten.
Cons: I really can't think of any.
Value: These are a bit more expensive than standard folders, however, they're a different animal. I think the additional functionality and benefit of having a folder with four closed sides that nothing will fall out of is well worth the little bit of extra money.
Where to Buy: Office Depot or Office Depot online.
