Regarding #5, please add to/too/two to the list! :-) (And thank you for reminding people about putting forth literate communications!)

I agree with everything you've written except #2, because my *personal* preference is not to have anything vital in the subject line unless it is duplicated in the body of the test. I generally do not read/see most of the text of headers, because I have almost all (eleven) available inbox columns turned on to enable quick sorting and searching (by date, priority, various of my many accounts, all of which come to one inbox, etc.). If I advance to an email for which nothing comes up in the preview pane, my first instinct is to assume I have a corrupted email as that's usually the case. Minor panic! (I suppose if one still uses a signature block, that obviates the latter concern, though an email empty of anything except a sig looks pretty flawed.)

Also, I prefer to always quote the pertinent text of a sentence, immediately followed by my reply or confirmation. If there's nothing in the body, reviewing old emails quickly requires scanning back and forth from body to header and back.

I'm not saying your telegram-in-the-header isn't a great idea; I can see how it would be applicable for people with a need to send very small bits of information efficiently. It's just not great for someone like me. Your mileage may vary. :-)

Great tips. The clear action-oriented subject line really works.
