Thankful

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday! The food, the friendship, the family togetherness. I just love it because there's nothing to distract from the meaning of the holiday. Plain and simple, it's about gratitude, and if you know me at all, you know I'm into gratitude.

There are so many many MANY things I'm thankful for -- so many that I can't begin to list them all here or we'd be here all day. But if I could possibly encapsulate them, I suspect it would boil down to health, liberty, love, friendship, and prosperity. Even in times of tremendous uncertainty, tragedy, and sorrow, there is always something to be grateful for. Finding it can sometimes be the challenging part, but it's always there somewhere.

When I leave this life, I'm not sure how I will be remembered; whether I'll be someone who was thought of as "smart" or "funny" or "kind." But if I have anything to say about it, I hope I'll be remembered as someone who was thankful.

All The Small Things

Small things are often not small at all. In the moment they seem insignificant, but as time passes their impact -- whether positive or negative -- becomes more obvious. Consider putting just $25 per week away into a savings account or investment vehicle. It seems very small. And it is -- in the moment. But after ten years, if that money earns just 5%, you'll have over $17,000 dollars saved -- $12,000 of it is the money you contributed, and the other $5,169 is interest you earned, because of the time value of money. Am I The Crazy One??

Difficult people. We all know one, or we know someone who is involved with one. These are the drama queens, fuss-makers and those I like to refer to as "high maintenance". They may be your friend, your parent, your in-law, your sibling, or even your spouse. You know how it goes... they fuss, they demand, they whine and complain and in general, they can make your life difficult if you let them. They overstep your boundaries consistently and when you re-assert your boundary they act offended and hurt. Isn't it exhausting? At some point, after this goes on long enough you begin to second-guess yourself, wondering, "Am I the crazy one here?"
